Photographing Vintage Cars

I hope everyone has been doing well since I last posted on my blog! The last several months of 2022 were a bit crazy, but I wanted to take the time to come back and create a new post for you all to read on!

This month, I wanted to talk about a form of photography that I was recently introduced to several months ago. Vintage cars!

The last few months, I’ve been working on more projects like this, which have been nothing but fun all around! When I received a call from one of my clients to come photograph his vintage cars, I was excited and didn’t hesitate to start packing my car with all the gear I was going to need. The cars I would be photographing were a 1965 Ford Mustang, which was originally purchased by my client’s wife when it was first manufactured, and a 1966 Pontiac Lemans. Both of these cars were very neat to look at and be around while photographing. Today, I wanted to share a few of the photos from this session to give you an idea just how beautiful these cars came out!

A variety of lenses and lighting were used to create some of the images I’ve posted below. You’d be amazed at how well a camera flash can make an image stand out! The camera I used was the Canon EOS R, combined with a RF 35mm F1.8 prime, as well as a RF 24-105 F4. For lighting, I used 2 Alien Bee B800 Lights with subtle diffusion. The lights gave me a fantastic look on the engine as well as allow me to light other parts of the vehicles that were needing more exposure. Links to all this gear can be found at the bottom of this post!

While I have many more images to share, I will be posting those photos at a later date. The owner of these cars wanted to have me come photograph both vehicles because the mustang was soon to be sent off to Florida where it would be cared for by his son. I really enjoyed the opportunity to photograph such classic cars and Hope to be making more posts like this one in the near future!
